Biryani & Rice
Layered, slow-cooked, and built on aged basmati — our biryani is the dish Karachi argues about and Chicago keeps coming back for. Chicken, goat, kabsa and Lahori pulao, all 100% Zabiha Halal.
A proper biryani is a project, not a stir-fry. We layer par-cooked aged basmati with marinated meat, caramelized onions and a saffron-scented masala, then seal and steam it so every grain takes on the flavor without going soft. The result is the dish people travel across Chicago's Devon Avenue for — distinct grains, deep spice, tender meat falling off the bone.
Our rice menu runs beyond biryani into the wider Karachi table: kabsa, reflecting the city's Adeni heritage; Lahori pulao with whole spices; and a line of wok-tossed fried rices for chicken, beef, shrimp and paneer. Goat biryani is the connoisseur's pick; chicken biryani is the everyday favorite. Everything is halal, and the larger portions travel well for family meals and small gatherings.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between your biryani and pulao?
Biryani is layered and steamed with a bolder, more complex masala and the meat cooked into the rice. Pulao (our Lahori Pulao) is cooked together in one pot with whole spices — milder and more aromatic than spicy.
Do you have goat biryani?
Yes. Our goat biryani uses slow-cooked tender goat layered with aged basmati and caramelized onions. It's one of our most popular weekend orders.
Can I order biryani for a group?
For everyday orders, biryani is on karachichaathouse.com/order. For larger event quantities, see our catering page at karachichaathouse.com/catering.
